The Research Executive Agency of the European Commission has chosen a group of Greek scientists to lead a European consortium that will carry out a research project in the field of space technology. The Greek scientists, members of the company Planetek Hellas, intend to examine the application of modern earth observation technologies to the tracking of shipwrecks and submerged ancient settlements. The consortium consists of eleven European research organizations from countries such as Portugal, Belgium, Italy, England, Denmark, and Greece.

The Greek scientific group will have 30 months at its disposal to examine hundreds of satellites orbiting the Earth and to assess which of them can accurately record the seabed at a depth that reaches 50 meters. The project will be conducted under the auspices and funding of the European Space Agency.
