Greek Defence Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos paid a day-long official visit to Israel yesterday, during which he was received by the President of Israel Shimon Peres and the Defence Minister Mose Ya’alon. During the meetings, the two officials reaffirmed their strategic relations and discussed stability, peace and development in the region of the eastern Mediterranean.

Their talks focused on sectors of research, technology and the utilization of manpower and training in the armed forces. After their meeting, Avramopoulos noted that “this strategic cooperation does not constitute a threat to anyone,” while his Israeli counterpart stated that “the strategic relationship that has been consolidated between the two countries only serves the stability in the region of the Middle East and eastern Mediterranean.”

The Defence Minister also visited the Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III.
