A Greek event, specifically, Cretan, was held at the UN's headquarters on December 5, as part of celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Union of Crete with Greece. The Pancretan Association of America (PAA) in cooperation with Greece's Permanent Delegation at the UN, organised a symposium on "The Cretan Nutrition: Crete's 100 Years of Contribution to Better Nutrition and Healthy Living.”

"The symposium aims to highlight the traditional Cretan Diet - as a model of the Mediterranean diet - ideal for health and longevity. At the same time, the event hopes to promote the island's rich agricultural production and excellent quality products," stated Manolis Velivasakis, former president of the PAA.

The Greek Diet and its benefits for health were also presented at an event held on December 4, at the U.S. Congress, organised by the Greek Embassy in Washington. As known from 2010, Greek Diet, as part of the Mediterranean diet, has been designated by UNESCO as' Intangible Heritage of Humanity "for its contribution to human health, quality of life and well-being that gives.
