Leading Canadian writer Margaret Atwood will be honoured with the title of Honorary Professor of the English Language and Literature Faculty of Athens University at a special event to be held at the Greek Consulate in Toronto today, in the presence of Greek ambassador to Canada Eleftherios Angelopoulos.The University's Senate has decided unanimously to award the title to the leading Canadian writer, poet, novelist and critic - with a rich and original body of work and multiple awards to her name.Canadian ambassador to Greece Robert Peck, hailing the Senate's decision, said "Margaret Atwood is one of the most famous writers of Canada and very well known in Greece. As we are concluding events sealing 70 years of official Canadian-Greek diplomatic relations, we are celebrating this special honour." Among the Athens University departments is a Canadian Studies centre, founded to promote Canadian literature in Greece.
