The University of Groningen in the Netherlands has announced the establishment of a Chair of Greek Archaeology, and the inauguration ceremony lecture titled " Archaeology of / in a changing society" will be given today by Sophia Voutsaki, a Greek archaeologist and professor at the University of Groningen since 2003.

The Chair – led by a group of professionals employed by the University - aims to promote awareness of these Greek studies, as it relies on close cooperation between the Departments of Archaeology, Ancient History and Classical Studies, Faculty of Humanities of the University. "Our goal, says Sophia Voutsaki, is to create a center for research and teaching in Greek antiquity, but also simultaneously to meet the Dutch public, which, unfortunately, in recent years had formed a negative image about Greece - another aspect of Greek reality." The inauguration ceremony of the office of the Greek Archaeology Chair will take place today.
