Deputy Foreign Minister Kyriakos Gerontopoulos paid a three-day visit in Alexandria, Egypt. During his visit, Gerontopoulos visited the Cavafy Museum and the Greek Yacht Club of Alexandria. After touring the historic Greek quarter, he was briefed on Greek community’s issues, and made the following statement: “I was impressed with the work being done here, with the primary, middle and high school, the nursing home, as well as the remarkable facilities. Through my presence here, Greece wants to show its gratitude and acknowledge this contribution.”
Gerontopoulos, along with Alexandria's governor Tarek Mahdy Abdel Towab, on November 24, inaugurated two museums, founded by the Patriarchate of Alexandria; one with Greco-Roman artifacts, in the underground ancient aqueduct and a Sacristy.Concluding his visit, the Deputy Foreign Minister was awarded with the Supreme Taxiarch's medal, by the Alexandria and All Africa Patriarch Theodoros II; he was also awarded the city's key by the Alexandria Governor General Tarek Al Mahdi. The two officials earlier discussed a Greece-Egypt agreement on cooperation between the ports of Piraeus and Alexandria.
