The 6th European Summit of Regions and Cities will be held in Athens on March 7-8, 2014 at the Megaron Athens International Conference Centre. Every two years, the Committee of Regions holds a European Summit of Regions and Cities. These summits bring elected representatives from regional and local authorities together to discuss the main challenges facing the EU. More than 800 mayors and regional governors from all EU member-states will be coming to Athens to attend the summit of the EU's regions and cities, in the framework of the Greek presidency.

During the media preparations on November 22, Deputy Press Minister and government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou said that "The next Euro-elections will be decisive for the future of Europe as a whole and it is indicative of this that the first debate between the candidates for the European Commission's presidency will take place here in Greece. Even more important is the seminar preceding this, when there will be a presentation to European citizens of what growth and recovery means at local level," the government spokesman said.
