Noted historian Mark Mazower will give a lecture entitled A New Age of Extremes? Historical Reflections on the Politics of the Present Crisis, at Deree-The American College of Greece, on February 12, on the rise of political extremes in crisis-hit Greece.

Alluding to the late Eric Hobsbawm’s study of the 20th century, The Age of Extremes, the historian will seek to answer the question of whether we are experiencing a new era of political extremism.

Mazower will delve on how the contemporary extreme right, notably in Greece, compares with what historians tell us about interwar European fascism, and what the relationship between the revolutionary left of past and present is.

Mazower’s speech will be delivered in the framework of the Eighteenth Annual Kimon Friar Lecture and will be live-streaming broadcast, exclusively on the Kathimerini daily’s website.
