Outgoing Cyprus President, Demetris Christofias, visited Athens yesterday, as a farewell gesture and met with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, Parliament Speaker Evangelos Meimarakis and political party leaders.

Christofias was also received by Hellenic Republic President Karolos Papoulias whom he thanked for his support on the Cyprus problem.

In statements following his meetings, Christofias expressed his disappointment with some European partners over the bailout package to Cyprus. As to developments regarding the Cyprus issue, he said he felt vindicated because Cyprus has reemerged from the shadows, following the rejection of the Annan Plan and now, "we are way ahead of Turkey, which refuses to even talk."
