On the centennial anniversary of the Balkan Wars, the Benaki Museum is hosting until February 10, the exhibition Balkan Wars 1912-1913: The Beginning of the Greek Twentieth Century. The exhibition, which covers events up to the Asia Minor catastrophe in 1922, features a selection of photographs and memorabilia including war medals, spoils of war, officers’ diaries and Eleftherios Venizelos’s pistol from the Theriso revolt.
From the advancement of the Greek army, developments in the economy at the beginning of the 20th century and technological improvements (such as warplanes and steam engines) as well as progress in medical treatment, to mass population shifts, the exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of the entire period by shedding light on different facets of history and society.
