A unique programme aiming to familiarise kindergarten children with ancient toys will be hosted at the New Archaeological Museum of Pella on January 24-25. Many ancient toys are part of the museum’s large collection, including a true star: a slim-figured, hair styled, clay doll, dating back to the 4th century BC. The uniqueness of this new programme lies in the fact that the Museum will not only showcase the toys, but also allow children to play with them, in a kind of treasure hunt.

"We have selected some toys from the museum’s collection for the children to see", says Anastasia Georgiadou, archaeologist with the XXI Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities Ephorate.

"We have decided to present these objects next to modern toys, the clay doll next to a Barbie, playing pawns next to a chess set, the cicada next to a modern rattle used nowadays, so that children can better understand the objects."
