BluemassMed Demonstration Day, the closing conference for the first EU maritime surveillance project to involve Member States directly through their services, will be held in Brussels on June 7.

Bluemass Med is a pilot project co-funded by the European Commission in the framework of the Integrated Maritime Policy.

It began in January 2010, with the participation of six Member States bordering the Mediterranean and its Atlantic approaches (France, Greece, Italy, Malta and Spain).

The project created a network of 37 agencies responsible for maritime surveillance in the participating countries with the use of information-sharing and interoperability.

The upcoming conference will present the results and address the issues raised by the pilot project, as well as future perspectives in maritime surveillance in Europe.
