A detention facility for undocumented migrants opened in Amygdaleza, Attica region on April 29. This is the first of 30 such facilities that the Citizen’s Protection ministry has announced it plans to set up in the coming months.

A total of 56 foreign nationals -all identified as undocumented migrants- were transferred to the new facility, with a team of Hellenic Centre for Disease Control & Prevention (KEELPNO) staff dispatched to the site. Citizen’s Protection ministry announced that by May 15, a total of 220 illegal migrants will be transferred to the centre, whose capacity is for 1,000-1,200 people.
