Foreign Minister Petros Molyviatis and Defence Minister Frangoulis Frangos, both members of the recently-appointed caretaker cabinet, represented Greece at the 25th Summit of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) taking place in Chicago from May 20 to 21.

The Chicago Summit principally focused on three main themes: the Alliance's commitment to Afghanistan through transition and beyond, ensuring that the Alliance can deal with the challenges of the 21st century, as well as strengthening NATO's network of partners across the globe. Following the meeting, Molyviatis said that the proceedings of the NATO Summit concluded successfully, focusing mainly on the Alliance’s reform in order to face the challenges and threats of the 21st century.

"Regarding the FYROM’s accession to NATO, the Chicago Summit reaffirmed the decisions of the Bucharest Summit, reiterating that the neighbouring country will be invited to become member of the NATO Alliance, as soon as a solution is reached on the name issue" said Molyviatis. On the margins of the Summit, Molyviatis met with the French President, the German Chancellor, the Italian Prime Minister and several other political leaders.

This year, Greece celebrates the 60th anniversary since its accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
