On the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day observed every year on May 3, the Permanent Missions of Greece and France to the United Nations are holding today a round table discussion on Protecting journalists: Lessons Learned and Prospects 5 years after Resolution 1738.
Six years after the adoption by the Security Council of Resolution 1738 on the Protection of Journalists in armed conflicts, the issue unfortunately remains timely.
Journalists continue to face serious dangers in conflict situations, paying a high price for carrying out their job effectively.

Greece and France, main sponsors of Resolution 1738, consider it necessary to launch a follow-up and substantial discussion on the implementation of the Resolution.
With the active cooperation of UNESCO, the event aims to raise awareness on the issue and explore the legal and political means to guarantee the security of journalists in the field.
