His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece is paying an official visit to the Russian Orthodox Church from May 23 to 30.
On May 24- Ascension Day, which this year coincided with the commemoration of Saints Cyril and Methodius- Archbishop Ieronymos and His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Assumption in the Moscow Kremlin and opened the Day of Slavonic Literature and Culture.
Later on the same day, Archbishop Ieronymos also met with the Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a reception in honour of the Name Day of Patriarch Kirill, held at the Moscow Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.
Putin welcomed Archbishop Ieronymos on his first visit to Russia and thanked him for visiting Russia on this special occasion, stressing that "the spiritual roots that unite us are particularly vivid." On his part, Archbishop Ieronymos congratulated Putin on his recent re-election and referred to the century-long common history shared by the Greek and Russian peoples, noting that "it is very important to support one another in our time."

On May 26, Archbishop Ieronymos travelled to St. Petersburg where he visited Saint Sergius’ Monastery of the Trinity and St. Petersburg Theological Academy and conversed with professors and students. Today, the Archbishop returns to Moscow to continue his visits to monasteries of the Russian Church and the Moscow Theological Academy.
