report issued yesterday by the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, in 2011 the capacity of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) has risen by 44% compared to 2010, surpassing the national goal set for the said year.
Photovoltaic systems recorded a growth rate of 215 % in the last year, while wind power production rose by 26%.

The ministry stressed that several energy projects, are currently in progress (up to 185% from 2010) paving the way for growth in power capacity next year. The development was attributed to major structural changes so that RES become a strategic choice for Greece’s national energy mix.
