A vessel by the Peace Boat NGO, with 1,000 passengers on board, including survivors from the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Holocaust sailed on March 27 to the port of Piraeus, a stop during its journey across the Mediterranean. On its 75th Global Peace Voyage, the ship is sailing under the slogan For a world without nuclear weapons.

Upon disembarkation in Greece, a press conference was held at the Municipality of Piraeus. Peace Boat is a Japan-based international non-governmental organization that works to promote peace, human rights, equal and sustainable development and respect for the environment.

Since 2008, Peace Boat has invited Hibakusha -atomic bomb survivors- from Hiroshima and Nagasaki to participate in the "Global Voyage for a Nuclear-Free World: Peace Boat Hibakusha Project." Until January 2011, over 130 Hibakusha had travelled around the world giving personal testimonies about the effects of the atomic bombs and calling for abolition of nuclear energy.
