Is Graffiti an art form or not?The question has been tantalising art critics ever since graffiti was accepted nonchalantly in the realm of “serious art” within the walls of art galleries.
It is still a contentious issue: for some, graffiti is considered an act of vandalism while others perceive it as a proletarian method of grassroots productivity. Vamiali’s Gallery is trying to answer the question by hosting a graffiti indoor exhibition titled On the Blocks running until March 24.
The inside walls of the gallery were fitted with YTONG block, a material used for firewalls, so that they convey the state of emergency that embodies the essence of street art. Artists APSET, BLAQK, BOOHAHA, MINTONE, RTMone engage in the everlasting battle of the permanent versus the ephemeral, exploring their visual identities ever further.Visitors have the unique chance to take a walk down a make belief street lane, to savour an oxymoron hybrid: indoor street art.
