A new state-of-the-art laser machine, able to remove secondary metastatic lung tumours with minimal damage to neighbouring healthy tissue is now being used at the Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea, Central London.

The "lung laser" - presented in June after years of research by thoracic surgeon George Ladas - can be used in tumours of all kinds, reducing operating time and improving patients' recovery time and quality of life.

George Ladas, the mastermind behind this breakthrough completed his training in thoracic surgery at Evangelismos General Hospital in Athens and has been working as a thoracic surgeon at the Royal Brompton since 1997.
