The Friends of Astronomy Association of East Macedonia is organizing the 2nd Star Watching Camp Astrocamping 2010 at Mount Ipsarion, on the island of Thassos from July 15 to 19. The event pivots around star gazing – the main activity after night fall.
Associate Professor of History and Philosophy of Astronomy Dr Stratos Theodosiou at the University of Athens is going to speak on star-related topics such as the creation of spectral lines and research concerning the detection of extraterrestrial life.

Archaeological Museum, Renovated

The archaeological museum in Thassοs reopened on July 10, in Limena - the island’s capital - following extensive renovation. Some 1,700 objects are on display in the museum’s 16 halls (1,400 square metres), which host collections dating from early antiquity to the Byzantine period. Additionally, the remains of Classical and Roman-era buildings are visible in the museum's basement.
