  • An exhibition on the study of Greek in Geneva
An exhibition on the study of the Greek language and culture is currently taking place in Geneva, Switzerland until August 18, at the city’s library.

The goal is to highlight the importance of the Greek heritage for the Swiss city. Geneva became a significant European centre for the dissemination of Greek texts, thanks to the contribution of French humanists who established reputable printing houses, after they had found refuge in Switzerland, during the years of the French Reformation.

The exhibition includes sketches by the Swiss Ferdinand de Saussure, a towering figure in linguistics, and a 2,000 year-old- papyrus with the theorem of Pythagoras, which will be presented to the public late August in Geneva, during the 26th International Congress of Papyrology.
