  • 8th Biennale of Young Greek Architects

The Benaki Museum's Pireos Street Annexe hosts the 8th Biennale of Young Greek Architects, running until November 8. The event showcases 59 projects developed by 214 architects whose work reflects the world of contemporary Greek architecture, as developed during the years of the crisis.

The selection committee has chosen 59 overall projects, half of which have already been completed. The Biennale goes beyond the mere presentation of new interesting projects, recording trends as they happen and pointing to future directions of contemporary Greek architecture. What becomes evident in this show are various transformations in different directions, in relation to both urban and natural landscape, in that there is more decentralization, less focus on house design and more on public space.

  • Drops of Breath

The world’s first underwater performance entitled "Drops of Breath" - complete with underwater set and sound design, as well as underwater audience - will be held at Cape Sounio, on Sept. 25 to 27. Choreographers Sophie Bulbulyan (France) and Apostolia Papadamaki (Greece) in collaboration with Lia Haraki (Cyprus) and a team of performers from ten countries will present an underwater dance-visual performance that will offer a unique visual and sound experience.

"Drops of Breath" is part of the innovative project "The Underwater Heart of the Mediterranean", which promotes the values of equality, transparency, simplicity, human rights and environmental protection, since everybody is equal under the water. Fully equipped certified divers will be able to attend the performance under water and sit on underwater benches; others could watch snorkeling from above, whilst audience preferring to stay dry could watch a live broadcast on a screen on the beach transmitted by three underwater cameras.
