  • 5th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art

The 5th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art, headed "Old Intersections-Make it New III", will run until September 30. This is the third and last installment of a programme that began in 2011, focusing mainly on the Mediterranean Sea. It includes exhibitions, workshops, screenings, symposia, guided tours and educational events.

The main exhibition "Between the Pessimism of the Intellect and the Optimism of the Will" showcases works from forty-four artists and one artists’ collective from around the world, while another highlight event is the exhibition "Kazimir Malevich and his students. 100 years after the Black Square. Russian avant garde works from the Costakis collection of the SMCA" (until October 10).

  • A tribute to El Greco

On the eve of the 2016 ‘Year of Greece’ in Russia and a ‘Year of Russia’ in Greece, Greek sculptor Nikos Floros accepted an invitation from the Smolny Cathedral (St.Petersburg, Russia) to represent Greece in Russia in 2016. On the occasion of this event, Nikos Floros holds another exhibition, this time on the Greek island of Rhodes, which will be held inside the Palace of the Grand Masters. The Greek exhibition, running until October 4, "A tribute to El Greco" presents four sculptured paintings by Floros, created for the 400-year anniversary of the death of the renowned master from Crete El Greco.

  • 2nd Athens World Poetry Festival

The Poets’ Circle, in collaboration with the City of Athens, the Athens Concert Hall and the Benaki Museum is organizing the 2nd Athens World Poetry Festival from September 21 to September 26. 50 poets from 21 countries will participate in the festival, whose aim is to highlight a common filed of sensitivity in Europe, Asia, Africa and America, emphasizing on the importance of poetry in difficult times.

  • Jo Nesbo in Athens

Fans of the Norwegian crime novelist Jo Nesbø are welcome to the Athens Concert Hall on September 18 for an event where the award-winning author will discuss his life, career and the creation of inspector Harry Hole with Greek journalist Antonis Karpetopoulos. The event is organized by the publishing house Metaichmio and the Norwegian Institute at Athens.

  • Adrian Ginsberg exhibition in Corfu

The Corfu Museum of Asian Art presents Adrian Ginsberg’s photo exhibition entitled "Corfu – The Other Side", which will run through September 27. The exhibition comprises 156 black-and-white photographs, which address the fundamentals of life: toil, poverty, loneliness, religion, faith, alienation, old age and death. The photographs depict rarely seen images of the vanishing traditional life of Corfu.

  • Exhibition Flying over the Abyss

NEON and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete present the exhibition "Flying over the Abyss", which runs through Sept. 27.

The exhibition utilizes Crete’s very important cultural asset, namely Nikos Kazantzakis, creating a ‘dialogue’ between "Ascesis: The Saviors of God" and the works by several Greek and international artists of contemporary art, tracing the enlightenment of a human life’s pathway, from the time of birth until death.
