Imagine Cup is Microsoft’s global student technology competition that provides opportunities for students across all disciplines to provide solutions that can change the way we live, work and play.

At the 2015 Imagine Cup World Finals held in USA, team Prognosis from Thessaloniki took home the Worldwide Ability Award and the 3rd Prize in the World Citizenship category.

Prognosis proposes an intelligent ICT-based approach for early Parkinson’s disease detection and intervention in older adults’ everyday life, simply by wearing a bracelet which sends data to a mobile telephone, carrying out useful configurations.

The students behind the project study Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Parkinson’s disease affects millions worldwide and causes motor problems and other impairments.

Symptoms typically begin appearing between the ages of 50 and 60, but they develop slowly and often go unnoticed during early stages.
