The first meeting of the Brussels Group (BG) - consisting of representatives of the European Central Bank, the European Commission, the European Stability Mechanism, the International Monetary Fund and Greek officials - took place in Brussels yesterday.

The Brussels Group will be discussing technical matters regarding reforms decided at the Eurogroup meeting and, when necessary, it will appoint technical teams to visit Greece. These teams will not go to ministries or other government agencies, as the troika previously did, government sources have noted. The first technical team is arriving in Athens today, in order to collect macroeconomic and financial data.

In related news, Finance Minister Yianis Varoufakis met briefly with his French counterpart Michel Sapin in Paris yesterday, in what the Greek minister called a "courtesy visit" to discuss "important bilateral issues."  Today, the finance minister will accompany Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras who will meet with OECD secretary general Angel Gurria to discuss Greece’s reforms.
