Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias visited Berlin yesterday (22.03) and met with his German counterpart [in Greek] Frank-Walter Steinmeier; both ministers have studied at the University of Giessen city.

In an interview with Deutsche Welle, Kotzias said that there is an old friendship and common interests between Greece and Germany. He added that the deconstruction of stereotypes will improve understanding between the two countries. On the subject of post World War II reparations from Berlin, he noted that Greece is seeking a political solution to the issue.

In an interview with German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, Nikos Kotzias said that Greece is seeking a political solution to the issue of post-WWII reparations from Berlin; he suggested the creation of a joint commission of experts from both countries. “Athens wants to come to an agreement regarding the issue of reparations…We need to find a common denominator,” Kotzias said. Today, the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is visiting Berlin.
