Hellas-France Alliance was the motto of the French Institute in Greece for 2014. With 900,000 Greeks speaking French as a foreign language, one could say that the language is popular and spoken widely (8% of the population). It is probably for this reason that the Greek-French cooperation in matters of culture is becoming even closer.
During the last edition of the Cannes Festival, an agreement between the French Cinema Centre and its Greek counterpart was signed as a means to support
joint film productions with funds amounting to €800,000. Moreover, the french-speaking world had a chance to meet Greece through a documentary film which was recently broadcast by TV5 Monde, the second largest global television network, as part of its Grand Tour series. The host, Patrick De Carolis starts from Thessaloniki and heads south to Delphi, Athens, Olympia, Santorini and Crete.
