  • European Parliament Elections
    The main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) party is in the lead with over 3% more than the senior coalition government partner New Democracy (ND) party in Sunday's European Parliament elections (25.05).

    With 98.18 % of the votes counted, according to the Interior Ministry, the following are the provisional results of the Euro ballot: SYRIZA: 26.58% (6 MEPs); New Democracy (ND): 22.74% (5 MEPs); Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi): 9.38% (3 MEPs); Elia: 8.03% (2 MEPs); Potami: 6.61% (2 MEPs); Communist Party of Greece (KKE): 6.07% (2 MEPs); and Independent Greeks (Anexartitoi Ellines): 3.45% (1 MEP).

    • Runoff Regional & Municipal Elections
    Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis held on to his seat in the 2014 Greek municipal elections leaving behind SYRIZA’s candidate, Gavriil Sakellaridis.

    Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris just won another term after receiving 58% of votes compared to 41.9% for his challenger Stavros Kalafatis, supported by the New Democracy Party.

    But there were changes in other key cities: SYRIZA’s candidate for Attica governor, Rena Dourou, edged out Attica Governor Yiannis Sgouros by winning 50.83% in the closest result of the night.
