The 23rd annual conference titled The Greek Economy: State Reform -The Cornerstone for Investment and Development organised by the Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce was held in Athens on December 3-4. The conference focused on ways to enhance Greece’s competitiveness and applying structural reforms.

Addressing the event, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras presented the government's goals in changing the current tax system, which include simplification, an increased use of technology, lowering tax rates and tackling tax evasion.

Moreover, Samaras expressed optimism that 2013 will see the first signs of recovery for the country’s economy and mark a turning point in its course towards reform. The conference was also attended by main opposition leader, Alexis Tsipras, USA ambassador Daniel Bennett Smith, and representatives of the business world as well as officials.
