Development,Competitiveness,Transport and Networks minister Kostis Hatzidakis and Administrative Reform and e-Governance minister Antonis Manitakis presented yesterday a cooperation agreement with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The OECD agreed to inspect 13 key sectors of the Greek economy, including energy, pharmaceutics, and state contracts, and make recommendations on ways to reduce red tape by 80%. A second agreement aims at pinpointing restrictions to competition in the sectors of tourism, food processing, retail trade and construction materials.

The overall goal is to boost competitiveness, encourage investments and exports and present consumers with more choice. According to estimates, up to € 7 billion can be saved by reducing the bureaucratic burden and lifting restrictions that hinder competitiveness.

The aim of the agreements, according to Manitakis, is to slash by 80% the cost of administrative red tape, with a 25% reduction by the end of 2013 and savings of 2.4% of GDP by 2025. The first stage of the project is due for completion by April and the second by September 2013.
