The many facets of art

The many facets of art is the title of an exhibition by the Milanese Rachele Bianchi. With over 60 sculptures and paintings dating back to Bianchi’s career in the 50’s and the 60’s, the exhibition illustrates how her use of different materials and techniques contributed to establishing her as an important figure in 20th century art. The exhibition runs through November 2 and is hosted at the Cultural Institute of the Italian Embassy in Athens.

A photographic exhibition Momentography/Athens is being hosted at the metamatic:taf art space in Monastiraki district, in downtown Athens.

Five Greek artists capture everyday moments, thoughts and feelings recorded on an urban background, exploring the truth "that is found somewhere deep inside us". The exhibition runs until October 28 and has a free entrance.

Swan Lake, perhaps the most iconic classical ballet, will be performed by the Moscow City Ballet at the Pallas Theatre in Athens on October 13. The ballet company, which has performed in some of the world’s biggest theatres, "specialises" in Russian classics.Their Swan Lake rendition  has been hailed with enthusiasm by ballet afficionados around the world.

• Primal Matter in Thessaloniki

Choreographer Dimitris Papaioannou gained worldwide fame when he was appointed Artistic Director of the opening ceremony of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.

But before becoming "mainstream", he had marked the Greek experimental dance scene with his avant-garde stage directions, as founder of the Edafos Dance Theatre.

In recent years, he has been retracing his "alternative" roots: this is the case with Primal Matter, a study on the interaction of bodies, with no use of music and minimal stage scenery.

    
The performance earned good reviews at the Athens Festival, and is now being presented in Thessaloniki, at the 47th Dimitria Festival, on October 11-14 and 17-20.
