Have you ever wondered what the best word ever is? If you think about the richness of the Greek language, you need not go far to discover that the best word ever is a Greek one: the word Diphthong.

To this conclusion came the blogger Ted McCagg who conducted a contest on his blog "Questionable Skills" to find the best word in the world.

Relying on his sense of lexicographical research, science, taste, and common sense, McCagg came up with the best word by following a bracket-style narrowing process that took place over the course of months.

Diphthong -a vowel sound in which the tongue changes position to produce the sound of two vowels- beat runner-up Gherkin and other words such as Hornswoggle, Kerfuffle or Akimbo.

Needless to mention that a plethora of other Greeks words were also included in this unusual competition such as: Isthmus, Catachresis, Xenophobe, Allophone, Synecdoche or Phlegm.
