Addressing a press conference following the meeting of European Left parties in Paris on October 26, main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras stressed that a political change in Greece [VIDEO] could result to more social justice for the rest of Europe. Tsipras also criticized political leaderships who act like a "mafia of economic, business and media oligarchy" and noted that their persistence on austerity policies annuls and abolishes democracy itself.

Referring to the dangerous prospects of EU interfering in the drafting of national budgets, and specifically to the third memorandum, he underscored that if the Greek government cannot determine the country’s fiscal policy, the country will become an economic protectorate within the eurozone. Tsipras also noted that aggravated political conditions foster the rise of Nazism and pinpointed to the responsibility of all those in Europe who insist on austerity which has led to a humanitarian crisis in Greece, a eurozone member state.
  • Tsipras’ Article in Les Echos
The French daily Les Echos published, on October 27, an article by Tsipras in which the opposition leader makes gloomy forecasts concerning the future of Europe as a result of austerity policies, since the crisis has not been contained, but on the contrary has spread across the euro zone.

He further noted that the EU leadership has neither "the will nor the ability to give answers to the huge problems facing the peoples of Europe" and reiterated his proposal concerning an international conference to write off the debt, similar to the one organised in 1953 for the Federal Republic of Germany, because what Europe needs is a development boost, a "European New Deal.'
