Festival du Nouveau Cinéma is an annual event in Montreal, Canada, which features independent films from around the world. This year’s edition took place on October 10-21, with a rich and varied programme.

The Greek film Boy Eating the Bird’s Food by Ektoras Lygizos won the critics’ award, called Prix de l’AQCC (Association québécoise des critiques de cinéma), which was shared with Brazilian Sudoeste by Eduardo Nunes. On the festival’s official page, critics speak highly of Lygizo’s directorial debut which takes a "daringly critical" stance, addressing the serious issue of destitution and starvation "without ever drifting into melodrama."
