The National Observatory of Athens Visitor Center – the oldest research centre in the Greek capital - opens its gates to the public with a unique summer touring programme aimed primarily at children and adolescents.

Led by a specialized astronomer, these 90-minute tours offer visitors a unique insight into the science and history of astrology.

The library houses a vast array of 18th and 19th century astronomical manuscripts, and it delineates the function of some of modern Greece’s oldest scientific research instruments present in the observatory. Thus, with a visit to the library, astrology is placed in a historical context and our knowledge of the cosmos shown to be constantly evolving and advancing. Moreover, contemporary telescopes, such as the Doris Telescope, allows tomorrow’s aspiring astronomers a closer glimpse of the night sky in all its transient grandeur.
