Τhe Hellenic Literary and Historical Archive is hosting exhibition based on photographs of the city taken during the late 19th century. The exhibition takes place at the Archive’s chapter in Thessaloniki (June 5- September 11).

Included in the exhibition is the oldest photo of the city, taken by an Italian 150 years ago, as well as photos by Rubellin et fils, the father and son photographers of French origin, who owned a studio in Smyrna in late 19th century and travelled extensively, taking snapshots of Greece, Turkey and the Middle East. Visitors will also see photos of buildings and monuments that no long exist, as well as the first traces of the Thessaloniki railway, the construction of which began in the 1870s.

The exhibition is bilingual (Greek-English). Since 2009, it is part of the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation.
