  • Deste Prize 2015 @ Museum of Cycladic Art
An exhibition with the work of the six shortlisted artists for the DESTE Prize 2015 will open its doors tonight at the Museum of Cycladic Art. The selected artists are Maria Hassabi, Petros Moris, Yiannis Papadopoulos, Angelo Plessas, Socratis Socratous, and Natali Yiaxi; the winner of the prize will be selected by an international Jury of six and will be announced at an award ceremony, to be held on September 7. The DESTE Prize was established in 1999 and is awarded biennially to a Greek or Cypriot artist living in Greece or abroad. The prize aims to showcase an emerging generation of artists and is integral to the foundation's policy of supporting and promoting contemporary art.
  • Terrapolis @French School Garden
NEON and the Whitechapel Gallery present the exhibition Terrapolis, at the French School, in Athens, until July 26. The works exhibited reconnect the human with the animal and asks whether we should regard animals as citizens and how do processes of nature, such as metamorphoses relate to the creation of art. The garden of the French School, provides the backdrop echoing the satyrs, sphinxes and centaurs of Greek contemporary sculptures, installations and films draw on myth, drama and the animal kingdom. This is the second in a three part series of outdoor art projects that bring significant artists from Greece and around the world into the public realm.
  • Tinos World Music Festival
This year’s Tinos World Music Festival will be held on Tinos island, from May 29 to 31. In its current edition, the festival focuses on the lute, the string musical instrument that has dominated the wider part of the Mediterranean region. The festival features lute soloists and virtuosi from Greece and Turkey who will perform together on stage and will present a repertoire of different versions of the lute. Tonight, there will be a pre-festival concert at the Upper Stage of Onassis Cultural Center with the participation of Periklis Papapetropoulos (saz), Cihan Turkoglu (saz, vocals), Stratis Psaradellis, Giorgis Manolakis Duo and Alexandros Papadimitrakis quartet.
  • The Black Keys @ Rockwave Festival
The Rockwave Festival, celebrates its 20th anniversary and invites every rock music lover to party. Its opening concert, on May 30, will feature one of the most popular garage rock duos, the Black Keys, who will appear in front of the Greek audience for the first time. The duo, Dan Auerbach (guitar vocals) and Patric Carney (drums) began as an independent act, recording music in basements and self-producing their records; eventually they emerged as one of the most popular rock artists of our era. The Rockwave organizers expect that this will be the concert of the year!
