The city of Thessaloniki came in second in the Interrail Destination of 2015 competition, with 1163 votes, behind the city of Heidelberg, German, this year’s winner with 1,658 votes. Thessaloniki appears to appeal to a wide range of travellers and more particularly to those who enjoy the ride, since visitors usually travel to this city by more conventional means, such as airplanes, buses and cars.
The distinction of the city in this year’s competition was not overlooked by the Thessaloniki Hotels Association, which places much emphasis and effort on the city’s touristic promotion. Interrail was founded in 1972 and crosses 30 countries across Europe.
