The British auction house Bonham’s will hold its London Greek Art Sale on April 28. The works are by various 19th century Greek artists, such as Nicholaos Gysis (1842-1901) [Portrait of the Artist’s Daughter], Michalis Economou (1888-1933) [Old Mill in Hydra], Vassilios Hatzis (1870-1915) [Shore Scene] and Jean Altamoura (1852-1878) [Junction in choppy seas]. The Greek Art sale will also include works by famous 20th century Greek artists such as Yannis Tsarouchis and Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika. 

According to the auction house: "All Greek art main movements starting from the 19th century to present day are represented in this sale with high quality works which showcase the breadth of subject, as well as the technique and style of the nation’s artistic heritage." Last year’s auction fetched €2.7 million. Bonhams has been organising auctions of Modern and Contemporary Greek Art for more than ten years. It is the only international auction house to hold dedicated sales of Greek art with works previewed in Athens before the London auction.
