The British Fashion Council has selected the Greek-born and London-based fashion designer Mary Katrantzou to be the recipient of this year’s BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund. Katrantzou will be awarded €275,000 as a financial booster to develop her fashion business and pursue her ambitions. Together with Katrantzou, the Council has decided to fund five more business plans.
Born in Athens in 1983, Katrantzou studied architecture at Rhode Island School of Design before focusing on fashion and textile design.
The Council acknowledged the designer’s "distinctive visual language, digital craftsmanship and an affinity to feminine and architectural silhouettes.
Katrantzou's thematic collections are inspired by art and the cultural significance of design." In 2010, Katrantzou earned the Swiss Textiles Award and besides working on her own label, Katrantzou has collaborated with a series of brands and retailers.
