A special tribute to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of Greek Cinema is taking place as part of the 55th Thessaloniki International Film Festival, from October 31- to November 9 in the city of Thessaloniki.
The festival has called upon its audience to choose their favorite Greek films from a comprehensive list of 200 films and the 20 films made it to the final list and will be screened as part of the tribute "1914-2014: 100 Years of Greek Cinema." In the list feature films such as The Counterfeit Coin, (Istoria mias Kalpikis Liras ) by Yorgos Tzavellas (1955), Stella by Michael Cacoyannis (1955), The Ogre of Athens (O Drakos ) by Nikos Koundouros (1956), A Neighborhood Named “The Dream” (Synikia to Oniro) by Alekos Alexandrakis (1961), Sweet Bunch (Glikia Symmoria ) by Nikos Nikolaidis (1983) and many more.
The festival also hosts 7 Greek premieres, among which Yannis Veslemes’ Norway (2014), a pop-noir-horror film, follows the adventures of vampire Zano, and Vladimiros Nikolouzos’ and Nikos Nikolopoulos’ Polk.
This year the renowned festival will host films from all over the world, cinematic surprises, distinguished guests, tributes, Master Classes, round table discussions and parallel events.
