O P E R A
  • Così fan tutte @ Greek National Opera
The opera Così fan tutte, one of the most famous comic works of the repertoire will be premiered at the Greek National Opera on October 24. The libretto is steeped in plot twists and unexpected situations that occur when two young officers decide to put into test the faithfulness of their respective beloved fiancées. Mozart's score is full of familiar arias and smart, agile vocal ensembles. Conductors: Miltos Logiadis (24, 25, 26, 31/10 - 1, 2/11) - Jean-Christophe Charron (8, 9/11).

  • Satyricon @ Onassis Cultural Centre
Composer Dimitris Papadimitriou has composed a singular large-scale work for narrator, soloists, choir and orchestra based on Petronius' Satyricon; the composition will ultimately develop into a full-scale opera. The story's protagonist Encolpius, a former gladiator, narrates his larger-than-life adventures making at the same time a critique on the corruption, decline and inevitable fall of Rome. Athens Camerata Orchestra with conductor Loukas Karytinos will perform Papadimitriou’s work, at the Onassis Cultural Centre, on October 23-24.

  • Turkish Film Week@ Greek Film Archive
Celebrating 100 years of Turkish cinema, the Greek Film Archive hosts a Turkish Film Week from October 23 to 29. The tribute will feature 14 long feature films that represent historic moments of Turkish cinema, like Yol (the Road) by Yilmaz Güney – a harsh portrait of Turkey, its people and its authorities, shown through the stories of five prisoners given a week's home leave, and Gelin (the Bride) by Ömer Lütfi Akad (1973), which "depicts the struggles of a migrant Anatolian family to adapt to and survive in the very different conditions of urban Istanbul and is one of the best presentations of internal migration in Turkish cinema."

  • Tribute to Bill Viola @EMST
A tribute to the important American artist Bill Viola is held at the National Museum of Contemporary Art until November 30. Titled The Passing the tribute consists of screenings of single channel videos including  The Passing, 1991, Anthem, 1983, Four Songs, 1976, Chott el-Djerid (A Portrait in Light and Heat), 1979, The Reflecting Pool, 1977-1980, Memory Surfaces and Mental Prayers, 1977 and more.
