Addressing the media, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos commented on the events at the soccer game between Serbia and Albania, during which, a banner on behalf of the Albanian fans was raised, stirring acts of violence inside the field.

FM Venizelos stated that “Sport events should be a demonstration of friendship, cooperation and peaceful coexistence of peoples and nations. Moreover, let it be noted that the Balkan countries have very unpleasant historic experiences. I am positive that the governments of the two friendly neighbouring countries will not only condemn these acts, but use this opportunity to project an image of regional stability, respect for existing borders and common European perspective for all countries in the area. I trust the governments to abide by this not only with statements but with actions as well”.
