Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Evangelos Venizelos is participating in the 69th General Assembly of the United Nations held in New York, from September 21 to 28.

On Sunday, 21 September, Venizelos had a one-on-one meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the main issues of Greek foreign policy. The Secretary-General and the Deputy Prime Minister "exchanged views on prospects for the long-overdue resolution of the Greece / FYROM 'name' dispute. They also discussed the status of the negotiations to reach a comprehensive settlement in Cyprus, particularly in light of the recent appointment of a new Special Adviser of the Secretary-General on Cyprus." according to the UN readout.

Today, Venizelos will meet with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, and with His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America. On the multilateral level, he will participate in the coordinating meeting of European Union Foreign Ministers; he will attend the working dinner of EU-NATO Foreign Ministers, and will take part in the meeting of South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Foreign Ministers and the Ministerial Meeting of OSCE participating states.
