Hellenic Post (ELTA) announced on September 9 the issue of a collectible stamps edition to mark the 400th anniversary since the death of Domenicus Theotokopoulos, known as El Greco, the master painter of the Spanish Renaissance. The current year – 2014 – commemorates the 4th Centenary of the death of El Greco, launched in Toledo, and as such, this initiative is part of Greece’s tribute to the great master.

The series and various associated products (first-day circulation envelopes etc) depict details from El Greco's painting "The Burial of Christ," a painting acquired by the National Gallery in Athens.

All philatelic products will be sold by the central philatelic shop in Athens and post office branches, while stocks last, until September 9, 2015.
