During a visit to Greece, the European People's Party (EPP) candidate for the presidency of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, on Monday (19.05) applauded Greece’s efforts to combat the financial crisis. "I say to all those who bet against Greece and against Europe: You lost and Greece won. You lost and Europe won," Juncker said.

Juncker visited the offices of the European border agency Frontex, where he was briefed on actions taken to deal with migration flows and the joint operations run by Frontex and the Greek coast guard. Juncker was further briefed on works, currently underway, to extend Athens' subway to Piraeus.

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras received the European Commission candidate at the Acropolis Museum, where they viewed the display and the Acropolis from the terrace outside the museum restaurant.
