Greece ranked second worldwide in 2013 for the share of domestic electricity consumption covered by photovoltaics, according to figures released by the Hellenic Association of Photovoltaic Companies on May 9.

Specifically, in 2013, photovoltaic panels covered 6.7 % of domestic demand, while Greece was also listed, for the third successive year, in the world's top 10 for newly installed annual capacity. In terms of per capita installed photovoltaic capacity, Greece ranked fifth worldwide, while power produced by photovoltaic panels in 2013 averted 2.7 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
