Europe Day today (May 9) celebrates peace and unity in Europe. It marks the anniversary of the historical Schuman Declaration. At a speech in Paris in 1950, the French foreign minister, Robert Schuman, set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between Europe’s nations unthinkable.

To celebrate Europe Day and in the light of the European elections, EU institutions will open their doors to the public in Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg.

Local EU offices in Europe and all over the world are holding various activities and events for all ages.
