The AMIBIO Project (Automatic acoustic Monitoring & Inventorying of Biodiversity) that targeted the research for preserving biodiversity on Hymettus Mountain has been awarded by the European Commission as one of the 4 Best of the Bests LIFE projects in Europe - which recognise some of the best LIFE Nature projects that were successfully completed during the reference period 2013.

The AMIBIO Biodiversity project aimed to develop an automated system for remote analysis of biodiversity using acoustic technologies. It specifically sought to demonstrate efficient and effective monitoring of specific groups of acoustically active biota, including insects, amphibians, birds and bats in the area of a forest in a Natura 2000 site near Athens: the Hymettus area with Kaisariani forest and Lake Vouliagmeni.
